Free Lyft credit for existing users? It's possible...

"Invite Friends" for free $$$
Most of you Lyft users out there have already downloaded the app and input a new user Lyft promo code to get free credit. Now that you've taken your free ride, how can you get more free Lyft credit? Most existing Lyft users think that it's impossible to get more free rides, but I've picked up a few tricks in my time as a Lyft driver and passenger that will net you some freebies.

(If you're a new Lyft user, download the app and input my promo code DOUG1682 to get $25 off your first free ride.)

Free Lyft credit for existing users: Two tricks

1. Have a friend who hasn't used the app input a new user promo codeWho says you have to request all the rides? Have a friend in your group who is new to Lyft download the app and input DOUG1682. They'll get one free ride up to $25, and if you work the situation right, you'll be inside that free ride.

2. Use the 'Invite Friends' feature - You get one free ride per referral
Lyft will pay you to share the app with friends. Each friend you refer using the in-app "Invite Friends" feature will earn you one free ride, up to $25. Those can add up quickly. I've had friends who have banked $50 or $100 in free credits just by inviting friends to the app. That'll take you a long way.

There are no lyft codes for existing users. To get free rides you'll need to invite friends to the app or hand out promo codes to your friends.

The best cities for Lyft drivers: Top earnings, bonuses

Lyft drivers already know that not every Lyft city is alike. Your income will vary quite a bit new drivers, the more competitive cities with high earning potential also offer signing bonuses ranging from $100 - $250.
depending on the city you're driving in and for

If you're thinking about becoming a Lyft driver, these are the cities where Lyft demand is hot enough to pay you a good wage:

  • Bakersfield
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Cincinnati
  • Columbus
  • Denver
  • Honolulu
  • Indianapolis
  • Lincoln
  • Los Angeles
  • Milwaukee
  • Nashville
  • Orlando
  • Pittsburgh
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • St Louis
  • Toledo
  • Washington DC
Why these cities? Driver demand is so high that Lyft will offer a generous signing bonus after you get hired and complete 20 rides in 30 days.

High Demand = Higher Pay

Driver demand is high in those cities because passenger demand is high. High passenger demand means you'll be getting back-to-back fares. More fares and lower downtime = $$$$. In the cities listed above, on weekend nights you can hit the $35/hour that Lyft advertises, and on the slower days, you'll be making anywhere from $15 - $25/hour.

Signing Bonus For New Lyft Drivers?

The signing bonus you'll get for becoming a new Lyft driver in the cities above will make your first month a lucrative one. The sooner you apply the better, because Lyft will discontinue signing bonuses after they've recruited enough drivers to meet passenger demand.

Other Bonuses: Recruiting New Passengers

Did you know that Lyft will pay you for each new user you bring to the app? If you can get a new user to download Lyft and input your promo code, the new user gets a free ride and you get $10. The busy cities I've listed here have big untapped markets that present a huge money-making opportunity for drivers who spread the word and recruit new customers.

Money from the sky. Grab yours.

What's the Lyft job like?Lyft drivers use the Lyft smartphone app to receive ride requests from nearby Lyft users. When a user requests a ride and you're the closest driver, you receive a ride request notification in the app that you can either accept or decline. After you accept the request, you're given the user's location. Drive to the user, pick them up, begin the ride by hitting a button, then take them wherever they need to go. After they get out, you hit a button to end the ride. That's it! The user pays electronically -- no cash changes hands. You'll receive a daily summary of your fares and you're paid once each week.
